Gulabistan – Rosenstaden

Mosaikteatern (SE)

Gulabistan – Rosenstaden The starting point was to explore the colour pink. In many languages the colour pink is the same as the name for the flower rose, (gulab – gulabi = ros – rosa). Both the color as well as the flower is full of symbolism. In this piece have we used myths, stories and poetry connected to both the life span of the flower as well as stories and myths connected to the rose.

On stage is five dancers. The movement quality is influenced by the North Indian dance tradition kathak mixed with authentic movements as well as expressive body training. The piece is both choreographed as well as based on scores. The piece started off in Moghul India, inspired by sufi poetry and the beauty as a worship. But during the rehearsals did the piece take of and left the Indian subcontinent towards a universal Rose garden found within each persons heart and soul. There is no story, there is no explanation. Only an abundance of pink, red and purple and all other shades connected.
